Hug Someone You Love

Hug someone you love
Turn off all of the noise
Slowly close your eyes
And sink into their arms.

Let yourself feel something more
Then rage, uncertainty
Numbness and fear.

Hug someone you love
Safe, inside their arms
You won’t need to fear
That if you feel, you’ll fall apart.

Try to let your feelings flow
Perhaps they’ll find a way
To begin
to reopen your heart.

Hug someone you love
And feel the searing pain
Consciously pushed aside
To enable you to cope.

Perhaps it will help you
find your soul
marred by merciless death
And the fear of war to come.

Hug someone you love
Maybe it will remind you
That you’re still human
And capable of love.
